Turtle Rock Vineyards G2, Willow Creek District, Paso Robles, California, 2017 (SINGLE VINEYARD)
Overview of the Wine
"We are a small, family owned winery located in Paso Robles. Our winemaking philosophy is simple, you can’t make great wine without great fruit. We source our fruit from some of the finest vineyards in the Templeton Gap area of Paso Robles. Through sustainable farming practices, low yields, and harvesting at optimal ripeness, we are able to make wines with both intensity and balance. We hope these wines reflect the beauty of the wonderful places these grapes are grown as well as the people who nurture them." - Don & Claudia Burns
Grape / Blend
92% Syrah 4% Grenache 4% Mourvedre
Paso Robles, California
This Syrah is soft and smooth. The nose has a combination of smoked meats, blueberry, and dried herbs. 22 months in new French oak and 30% whole cluster fermentation gives this wine a ton of complexity and structure.
95 - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 90% Syrah, 6% Grenache and 4% Mourvèdre, made with 33% whole cluster and aged 20 months in 90% new oak, the 2017 G2 has a medium to deep ruby color and open, spicy nose with mint chocolate, cured meats, white pepper and floral aromas over a core of crushed blackcurrants, blackberries and red berry jam. The medium to full-bodied palate is intense and inviting, with great freshness, a grainy frame and loads of savory fruits, finishing long and layered.
94 - Vinous
Lurid violet. Powerful, smoke-tinged aromas of blackberry, cherry preserves and olive paste are lifted by a sexy, building floral element. Sweet, seamless and broad in the mouth, offering densely packed black and blue fruit liqueur and violet pastille flavors supported and sharpened by a core of juicy acidity. The impressively lively, penetrating finish features slow-building tannins, firm, spicy cut and superb persistence.
92 - Wine Spectator
Offers presence and polish, with a core of lively acidity and tannins wrapped in richly structured blueberry, brown baking spice and crushed rock accents. Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2029.
